From Helicopters to House Grooves: The Journey of Alves

ALVES

Alves, a Miami-based DJ and producer with roots in Brazil, has built a reputation for his infectious energy and evolving sound. Starting his music journey in Atlanta, he later moved to Miami, drawn by its vibrant music scene and creative atmosphere. Alves's transition from progressive house to minimal grooves was heavily influenced by his experiences collaborating with fellow artists and absorbing the rich diversity of the Miami underground.

With standout performances and a commitment to honing his craft, Alves continues to establish himself as a compelling voice in electronic music. Each track and set is a reflection of his dedication to growth and his deep connection to the rhythms that inspire him.

In the dynamic world of electronic music, Alves is making his mark as a Brazilian-born, Miami-based DJ and producer whose story bridges the skies and dancefloors. A skilled helicopter pilot, Alves spent years shuttling DJs to music festivals, sparking his dream to move from the cockpit to the stage. From his first encounter with TomorrowWorld to playing his own music in iconic venues, Alves’ journey is one of transformation, determination, and rhythm.

Taking Off: Early Exposure to Dance Music

“Back in 2013, I was flying DJs to TomorrowWorld in Atlanta,” Alves recalls. “At night, when I wasn’t working, I’d go to the festival. That’s when I experienced electronic music for the first time.” Watching Martin Garrix’s closing set was a pivotal moment, even though he admits, “At first, I didn’t really understand the music.”

The second day of the festival, however, changed everything. “I started to get it. The energy, the culture, how happy and friendly everyone was—it was unlike anything I’d experienced before.” Coming from Atlanta’s hip-hop scene, Alves found himself drawn to the positivity and connection of dance music.

From Big Room to House: A Shift in Sound

Alves’ early days were spent immersed in the mainstream electronic scene, gravitating toward artists like Swedish House Mafia and Gordo (then known as Carnage). But a defining moment came at Imagine Music Festival in 2018. “I saw Fisher perform, and that set made me fall in love with house music,” Alves shares.

Shortly after, Alves bought his first DJ deck. “At first, I was playing bass music and dubstep,” he says. “But one day, I transitioned two house tracks together, and I realized how seamless and groovy it felt. That’s when I knew house was my lane.”

Landing in Miami: A New Chapter

Four years ago, Alves moved to Miami, drawn by the weather and the thriving music scene. “Coming here and seeing how vibrant the house scene was definitely influenced my decision,” he explains. Miami provided him with opportunities to immerse himself in the music he loved and connect with the city’s culture.

Finding a Sound: The Influence of Classmatic

“For a while, I was making progressive house and techno,” Alves says. “But then I met Classmatic in late 2022, and my style changed overnight.” Hosting Classmatic during his first U.S. tour, Alves forged a close friendship with the Brazilian DJ and producer. “He opened my eyes to minimal grooves and that Brazilian-influenced rhythm. It just clicked.”

Classmatic’s mentorship helped Alves refine his sound, blending minimal, percussive elements with deeper house influences. “He gave me advice I still think about, like focusing on the second half of a track to maintain energy and interest,” Alves notes.

Breaking Through: Career Highlights

Alves’ career has been marked by milestone moments, from his first club gig in 2020 to seeing his music played by world-renowned DJs. “One of the most surreal experiences was at ARC Festival in Chicago at the Elrow stage,” Alves says. “Beltran was playing our collab, and he pulled me up to the decks. The crowd’s reaction when the track dropped was unforgettable.”

Another turning point was the widespread success of his track “Vamu Mexer,” which received support from heavyweights like Marco Carola and Paco Osuna. “Hearing my music at Ibiza’s Pacha and seeing it featured in an aftermovie was a dream come true,” he reflects.

Looking Ahead: Goals for 2025

As Alves’ profile continues to grow, he has ambitious plans for the future. “I want to release more music, start my own label, and play more shows,” he says. Alves also emphasizes the importance of self-releases. “It’s about having full control over my music and how it’s presented.”

Balancing his career as a helicopter pilot with his music pursuits, Alves is ready to take his passion to the next level. “2025 is the year I fully dive into my music,” he declares.

Advice to Aspiring Artists

Alves offers grounded advice for those entering the scene: “Be genuine with yourself and your sound. Don’t rush into making music your full-time job until you’re ready. Let your sound develop naturally—it’ll come from experimenting and finding what resonates with you.”

Reflecting on his journey, Alves emphasizes patience and persistence. “Music is a long-term investment. Keep creating, and the right opportunities will come your way.”

From helicopter rides to dancefloor anthems, Alves’ story is a testament to the power of following your passion. With his unique blend of Brazilian rhythm and Miami groove, Alves is poised to make waves in the electronic music scene for years to come.
